Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition Releases October 27

Personally, I think a lot more games from the PS3 generation could really benefit from getting re-releases on new, more powerful hardware. The ambition of many games at the time exceeded what the hardware could handle, so I am totally okay with Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition coming out on PS4 and XBOX One on October 27th from Nordic Games. (Little bit offended by that name though.)

That’s not to say that every publisher should be just throwing up ports of PS3 games all willy nilly. Consumers should at least feel like some effort has been put in. In this case, the developers at Gunfire Games, formed around the original Darksiders studio Vigil Studios, did the right stuff, revisited assets and spruced them up for the current generation, added in new lighting and shadow technologies, and even went as far as re-balancing the game itself based on feedback received on the original release. All of that Darksiders II DLC that was available back in the day is included out of the box this time around, fully integrated with new balancing that takes into account their inclusion.

“It’s rare that as developers we get the opportunity to revisit one of our previous games. The passage of time and the numerous games we’ve worked on since Darksiders II shipped has allowed us to return to it with a fresh perspective,” says John Pearl, Design Director.

Maybe not that rare anymore, John, but I appreciate the extra effort in making this new release the best it can be.

Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition will be USD/EUR 29.99 at launch. See our previous coverage for more details on everything included.

A student of games, I play a bit of everything because I like to see what’s out there. Nothing better than first hand experience when it comes to knowing about games. Current game obsession: Anything MOBA (Paragon, Battleborn, Heroes of the Storm), except, ironically, the most popular ones, LoL and DOTA2.
