Sony Acquires 3D Vision Technology Company

It would seem Sony went out shopping and bought a 3D vision technology company called Softkinetic, their reason for doing so is as follows..

Bringing you a visual experience like no other, the software will allow Sony to track your gestures. Make sure you’re prepared for a whole new level of playing video games.

Softkinetic possesses time-of-flight (“ToF”) range image sensor technology, as well as related systems and software. Their technology allows for full-body gesture recognition for use in games and applications. You can also browse and control your content from the comfort of your sofa with easy gestures. Have a look at their promo video..

This video shows some of their real-time tracking technology put to use in a software demo titled the Magic Shadow Theater.
