The Star Wars Rebels panel, moderated by Creative Executive as part of Lucasfilms Story Group Pablo Hidalgo and attended by Executive Producer and Supervising Director Dave Filoni, and actors Ashley Eckstein (Ahsoka Tano), Taylor Gray (Ezra Bridger), and Sarah Michelle Gellar (The Seventh Sister), who were all on hand to discuss the second season of the show. The main thrust of the panel was focused on the new addition to the show, Gellar’s Inquisitor character, the Seventh Sister.

Filoni wanted to broaden the definition of an Inquisitor and he started by working off of an old Ralph McQuarrie drawing. In fact, many of the characters, creatures, and vehicles should feel familiar to long time Star Wars fans since they’re mostly based off of old McQuarrie concepts.

As for casting, Gellar just happens to be the wife of Freddie Prinze Jr., who plays Kanan Jarrus on the show and Filoni thought it would be funny to have her in the room as a character trying to kill him. What Gellar likes about the character is that she won’t just go in for the kill. She likes to play with and torture her prey to see what she can get out of them before killing them.

One of the most interesting things to come out of the panel was how Taylor Gray’s path in the Star Wars universe mirrors his character Ezra Bridger’s path. Gray came in knowing little to nothing about Star Wars and the cast, especially Freddie Prinze Jr., has been slowly getting him up to speed. Filoni mentioned how between takes in the studio, he’d spy the two of them discussing things in a very mentor/padawan-like relationship, mirroring their on-screen connection.

At one point Gellar was talking about the identity of Darth Vader and Feloni mentioned that Taylor hadn’t known that. What he meant was that Taylor hadn’t known that when he started on the show but that they had told him at some point. Unfortunately, Gellar thought she had just spoiled it for him and the look on her face was one of shock and horror. They eventually let her off the hook but it was a great moment while it lasted.

After the panel the group moved to another room for a Press-only Q&A which you can watch right here:
