PS4 Holiday 2015 Guide

PS4 Guide

Which games and gear should I buy for a new PlayStation 4? Whether it be for your kids, your partner, or even yourself, this is currently the question on millions of shoppers’ lips.

Despite the PS4 only celebrating its second birthday a matter of weeks ago, there are already over 200 disc-based games available for Sony’s latest platform, not to mention a plethora of download-only titles.

Fret not, though, because PS Nation has you covered with our handy PS4 Holiday 2015 Guide, which covers the latest and greatest games, as well as essential accessories.

If you haven’t bought a console yet, there’s no need to worry. There will be no stock shortage this Christmas, and there’s a variety of bundles available across both North America and Europe.

The PS4 is currently available in two hardware configurations – both being a new, quieter version of the console in comparison to the original 2013 units.

The cheaper PS4 has an all-matte finish, with a 500GB hard drive.
PS4 500GB$299.99£279.99

The more expensive version has a glossy faceplate and boasts a 1TB hard drive.

PS Nation suggests purchasing the basic 500GB edition of the console and manually upgrading to a 2TB hard drive. It’ll be more cost-effective and installing the new hard drive before you first play on the console will save you time in the future.

PS Nation’s guide to replacing the hard drive can be found here.

A membership to PlayStation Plus is required to play online on PS4. The primary bonus of a membership is a variety of free games each month (with titles available for PS4, PS3 and PS Vita).

DualShock 4, the official PS4 controller, is available in a variety of different designs. Below is a link to the basic variant (black), but check back in the coming weeks as PS Nation will have a full article detailing every single PS4 console and controller edition.

Though it’s not the cheapest charging dock, Sony’s is probably the most reliable at this point.
DualShock 4 Charging Station£24.99
(US third party alternative: PowerA Dual Charger • $22.99)

The PS4’s relatively unhyped camera is only used in a handful of games, but can be helpful for voice control, and is a staple for many that stream via the PS4s Share functionality.
PlayStation Camera$39.99£44.75

Out of the box, the PS4 is designed to placed horizontally, but with Sony’s stand (third party stands do not tend to be as sturdy, or feature all-important ventilation) it’s possible to have that gorgeous console displayed vertically.
Vertical Stand$20.99£15.09
