Ashley Johnson and Phil LaMarr Headline Voice Cast Announced for The Witness

Up until just now, it had never occurred to me that there would be voices in The Witness, the next game from Braid creator, Jonathan Blow, but here we are mere weeks away from the game’s January 26th release on PS4 and PC finding out that Ashley Johnson, Phil LaMarr, Matthew Waterson, and Terra Deva’s voices will be in the game.

Ashley Johnson, PlayStation fans will recognize as the actress behind Ellie from The Last of Us, whereas Phil LaMarr was last heard in games as the voice of Kotal Khan in last year’s Mortal Kombat X. He’s better known for his roles in Pulp Fiction, as Hermes on Futurama, and as Vamp from the Metal Gear Solid series.

According to a blog post on The Witness’s website, despite featuring voice acting, the game’s story will still mostly be up to the player to discover, exploring, interpreting, reading between the lines. So where are we going to hear these people? The Witness, like Braid before it, will riff on video game conventions, and in this case players will get to experience a “highly non-traditional” take on the audio log.

Intrigued? Me too.

Get ready to explore an abandoned island when The Witness finally drops digitally on January 26th for PS4 and PC.

A student of games, I play a bit of everything because I like to see what’s out there. Nothing better than first hand experience when it comes to knowing about games. Current game obsession: Anything MOBA (Paragon, Battleborn, Heroes of the Storm), except, ironically, the most popular ones, LoL and DOTA2.
