Sony announced today that they are merging Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment into one company called Sony Interactive Entertainment. This new branch of Sony will be located in San Mateo, California and will be headed by Andrew House who will serve as the President and Global CEO. He will be joined on the board of directors by:

Kazuo Miura, Deputy President
John (Tsuyoshi) Kodera, Deputy President
Kazuo Hirai
Kenichiro Yoshida

In a press release Andrew House had this to say:

“By integrating the strengths of PlayStation’s hardware, software, content and network operations, SIE will become an even stronger entity, with a clear objective to further accelerate the growth of the PlayStation(R) business. Along with our business partners, SIE will develop pioneering services and products that will continue to inspire consumers’ imaginations and lead the market. We will work hard to maximize corporate value by coordinating global business operations across San Mateo, Tokyo, and London by leveraging local expertise.”

This change will take place on April 1st when the new business year begins. This is an effort by Sony to merge its multiple PlayStation related businesses into one singular business in hopes of maintaining and expanding the PlayStation brand in the future.

Sony Computer Entertainment was founded in 1993 and was the company that launched the first PlayStation console. While Sony Network Entertainment was founded in 2010 and was in charge of the PlayStation’s network services.

Just a nerd from the Windy City. I’m actually really bad at describing myself because I get all self-critical and self-conscious. Follow me on Twitter, @The1stMJC, to see my borderline insane rants on tv shows and other non important subjects. If I’m not tweeting I’m probably just watching Buffy or Firefly for the millionth time.
