Dead Island Definitive Collection New Screens, Preorders Live on PSN

Oh, have you not heard? Dead Island and its sequel Riptide are getting bundled together along with all of their DLC in a PS4 remastered release, the Dead Island Definitive Collection, which also comes with a brand new 16-bit game, Dead Island Retro Revenge. All of it will be available digitally on May 31st for $39.99 on PS4, XBOX One and PC, with each of the individual remasters, Dead Island Definitive Edition and Dead Island: Riptide Definitive Edition, available for $19.99 each.

Preorders for the Definitive Collection are live now on the PlayStation Store here. You get an exclusive PS4 theme!

Check out some new screens below.

Dead Island Definitive Collection features higher quality textures over the original releases on last gen consoles, as well as a new photorealistic lighting system, physically based shading, more sophisticated anti-aliasing, improved character models and geometry assets, horizon-based ambient occlusion, motion blur effects, and an updated UI that brings that system in each game more in line with the other.

It will be interesting to see if the move to current generation hardware will remedy the complaints Josh (reviewed Riptide) and Bill (reviewed Dead Island) had about the original games, namely screen tearing, framerate issues, texture pop-in and online connectivity problems (Online issues seemed to plagued the first release more than the later.)

The coolest addition, however, has got to be the Power Fist Power-up, which was a unofficial, fan made PC mod that’s now going to be officially released as part of both games.

Dead Island Definitive Collection comes from Deep Silver and Techland. What do you think? Will you be picking this up May 31st? I wonder when we’ll head about Dead Island 2 again.

A student of games, I play a bit of everything because I like to see what’s out there. Nothing better than first hand experience when it comes to knowing about games. Current game obsession: Anything MOBA (Paragon, Battleborn, Heroes of the Storm), except, ironically, the most popular ones, LoL and DOTA2.
