Last Week on #DailyPoll – 7/8/16

Last week on Daily Poll is where I compile the polls posted to our twitter account, @PSNation, each weekday. Last week was all about when you play games.

Monday
For those in the US, Monday was a holiday: Independence Day. I was curious who, amid all the fireworks and such, used the free time to play and catch up on video games.

I guess we’re a lot of gamers since most responses said yes. Holidays can be a fickle thing, with family or friends often wanting to use them to party or hang out. So some people like Calvin find it harder to play games on a holiday.

Tuesday
For Tuesday I was curious when people fit games into their schedule. I figured most people would have more free time during the weekend, but that’s not always the case.

For half the responders, it would seem that there is no specific day. Life gets priority for most people, I’m sure, so sometimes games just have to be fit in whenever we have the chance. That seems to be the case for Bad76.

Wednesday
All of this begged the question: how long is a normal game session for most players? Clearly its easier to fit in some video games if we’re okay playing for only a half hour. But not all games lend themselves to that kind of gaming and its easier to get into the game with longer sessions.

Apparently around two hours is the sweet spot. I’d be curious to see how this was split up even more, as there’s a decent difference between just over an hour and just under three hours. Still, I know for me, this was about right as I often only have a few hours to play on a weeknight after work and all the real life stuff I have to do.

Thursday
I figure this one will be a pretty obvious one. We do have a lot of followers for whom gaming is a big part of their life. But given the average gaming session in the previous poll, I was curious how many days a week people get to play games.

Yeah, no surprise that it is weighted heavily toward more days of the week. At first I was a little surprised if just because one to three hours a day, seven days a week is a pretty big time commitment for a lot of people. But I suppose both are just averages so not every day need be a full three hours.

Friday
Friday’s question is only tangentially related to the rest of the polls. But I was curious what makes people stop playing their game during a session. I suppose this is one of those things that could vary wildly but in general what is it that pulls us away from a game?

I suppose the bigger question would be “when do we play games during the day.” For me, being after work and dinner, I can often keep playing until I get tired and have to go to bed. But it would seem that a majority of our followers play games at such a time as they need to stop for work or other “life stuff.”

Anyway, that’s all for this week. I didn’t have many applicable twitter replies this week. Not sure what’s up with that. Polls go up every weekday so be sure to check twitter to vote and reply!

Now being retired, my gaming schedule is completely different than it was when I was working. Friends/family always want to get together on holidays so they’re hard to get gaming time in. During a normal week, I game every morning – leaving the rest of the day to do errands, go visiting, etc. I’m an early riser so I generally game 4 – 6 hours (wrap up around 11am). I stop because that’s enough for one day & so I can do other things.
