From yet another announcement at the Video Game Awards, Telltale gave fans an extended look at the upcoming release for The Walking Dead series.

The Walking Dead: The Telltale Series – A New Frontier is set to launch on December 20, 2016 for the PlayStation 4, just in time for the TV show’s winter break. The latest in the series, some would title season 3, introduces players to a new, main character named Javier and teases how the zombie outbreak affected him and his family. Watch the trailer for a surprise guest near the end.

Also announced was that both episode one & two will be released simultaneously as a two-part premier. This is great news for fans who usually have to wait weeks or months in between episodes. Of course you can also wait for the infamous “Season Pass Disc” to be available February 14, 2017 which will include the first episode on disc with access to download the other episodes as they become available. For anyone looking to go the digital route, purchasers will receive a complimentary copy of The Walking Dead Season 2 and the three episode Michonne mini-series for free, both of which I’d highly recommend playing.

In addition to the game related news, this looks to be the first official release without a PlayStation 3 presence. Perhaps the adjustments and improvements in the story engine means last-gen gets left behind for future Telltale releases.

The episode will be available the same day for compatible iOS devices via the App Store, and for compatible Android-based devices via Google Play. Release dates for additional platforms will be announced in the near future.

Beginning February 14th, the series will also be available for purchase on a special ‘Season Pass Disc’ for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles, which will include the premiere episode for the third season, as well as access to all subsequent episodes in the five episode season for download as they become available.

When family is all you have left… how far will you go to protect it? Years after society was ripped apart by undead hands, pockets of civilization emerge from the chaos. But at what cost? Can the living be trusted on this new frontier? As Javier, a young man determined to protect his family, you meet a young girl who has experienced her own unimaginable loss. Her name is Clementine, and your fates are bound together in a story where every choice you make could be your last.

Also confirmed today, The Walking Dead: A New Frontier will act as both a new beginning for players fresh to the series and unfamiliar with Clementine, as well as a continuation for players who have experienced Seasons One and Two. Players new to the series will be able to start a story that is tailored to this new beginning. Players continuing onward from prior seasons will have multiple options for quickly configuring their tailored backstory, or importing past save files from various platforms. Additional information on this feature will be detailed in the coming week.

  • I posted elsewhere but i need to know others opinions.

I think these character models are absolutely ugly. Ugly enough to where i might turn my back on the series because i can’t stand looking at the game. I honestly think Telltales A and B teams are busy doing all their other projects and The Walking Dead is being worked on by the C team.
