The Monthly Question: December 2016

Month after month, the internet complains about the PS Plus games. Now I will admit there have been some bad games but there have also been some terrific games as well. Take a look a December’s PS4 games for example.

Invisible, Inc. and Stories: The Path of Destinies received scores of 8.5 and 9.5, respectively, from PS Nation. They were also both part of PlayStation’s Spring Launch Party 2016. The two were released on PS4 this year, promoted by PlayStation, and reviewed well by the PS Nation writers. There is no reason not to give either of these games a chance.

To shine a light on other fantastic PS Plus games from 2016, I asked the PS Nation writers:

What is your PS Plus game of the year?

It’s almost a no-brainer for me. Transformers: Devastation was a blast when I paid for it and my review score reflects that, but I have to give it to Galak-Z.

That authentic retro space shooter, Metroidvania gameplay sold me when I first played it, and it keeps me coming back for more from time to time.

My PS+ Game of The Year would probably be Everybody’s Gone To The Rapture. I really enjoyed the game for both the graphical appeal and the storyline. Even though the controls and movement needed improvement, the story kept me intrigued and wanting to learn the mystery behind all the disappearances.

There have been so many great PlayStation Plus games over the last year. A few games came close to being my favorite, like Invisible, Inc., Tricky Towers, Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, and Yakuza 5, but the game that I always come back to is the excellent Flame Over on the Vita. Admittedly, I have since moved over to the PlayStation 4 version but I cannot wait to see what comes next from the developers at Laughing Jackal.

It isn’t often I get to write about an exothermic chemical process of combustion, and in so many different ways too. Check it out in my review of Flame Over on the Vita.

My PS Plus title of the year is hands down Gone Home. This indie darling really surprised me. I heard talk of the title before, but never paid much attention, luckily to my benefit.

The story is simple in many ways, but has so much depth and feeling to it. The house you explore could have been called creepy, but in hindsight it was sad and lonely. It’s these factors and the superbly voiced characters that made this title stand out to me.

Even if you didn’t grab it with Plus, I highly recommend this title.

Broforce is an incredible game with over the top violence. There is something about the vast number of “Bros” that the player is constantly changing to and experimenting with their special abilities kept me smiling the entire time. Whether you are playing by yourself or with three friends, Broforce is always a great choice.

Your Turn
