E3 2017: Bethesda Wrap-Up

As the first day of E3 2017 was coming to a close, Bethesda came out swinging with a strong lineup of fan favorites and some shiny new releases. The best news was that everything we saw is set to be released this year.

Pete Hines kicked off the show with a quick recap of the perennial favorites in the Bethesda stable including the likes of Doom, Fallout 4, Dishonored 2, Prey and Skyrim. That was just a tease leading up to a nice reveal regarding unique experiences leveraging VR technology.

First up was Doom VFR (I’m sure we can all guess what the F is there for). This will be an all new Doom experience for PlayStation VR and Vive coming in 2017.

Not to be outdone, the Fallout 4 team also had some VR goodness to showoff for fans with Fallout 4 VR. Unfortunately, this doesn’t seem to be getting a PSVR release and will only be available on PC & Vive in October.

Building on the VR excitement, Bethesda went back to their powerhouse MMORPG Elder Scrolls Online with the latest update for The Elder Scrolls Online: Morrowind. If the Morrowind content wasn’t enough there will also be Horns of the Reach and Clockwork City DLC coming too.

Not stopping the ESO hype train, the team also introduced the latest entry into the fascinating mobile card game The Elder Scrolls: Legends. The Heroes of Skyrim expansion will bring more “dragony goodness” to fans of the series.

Perhaps one of the most unique gaming elements Bethesda ever introduced was the inclusion of game mods on consoles such as those for Fallout 4. With the popularity of these mods growing exponentially, Bethesda is introducing fans to the Creation Club. This collection will feature the best curated content from Bethesda, outside development partners and the best community creators coming this summer.

The Dishonored franchise also saw a new game added to the series with the reveal of Dishonored: Death of the Outsider. Arkane is looking to continue the story of Billie Lurk as she looks to eliminate an evil presence lurking in the dark underbelly of Karnaca. Look for the new release to hit September 15.

Capitalizing again on well established franchises, The Evil Within 2 caused a few jump scares as the next chapter in the horror series was showcased. You play a detective looking for a lost girl while being tormented by the evil all around you. The release date for this just happens to be Friday, October 13.

And last but not least is the always fan favorite, the Nazi killing juggernaut BJ Blazkowicz in the new Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus. Perhaps one of the deeper story driven entries, this chapter in the long running series looks to put you in the middle of Nazi controlled America and lead a resistance to earn your freedom. This release will also hit the street on October 27.

It was another strong lineup from Bethesda this year, capitalizing on the fan favorites and introducing some new twists with the inclusion of curated content and juicy VR goodness fans have been asking for.
