NYCC 2017: The Tick Dangerboat Experience

NYCC 2017: The Tick Dangerboat Experience

Amazon brought The Tick Dangerboat Experience to NYCC 2017 and I had a chance to check it out on Saturday. Based on the new live-action Amazon series, Dangerboat is the Alan Tudyk voiced, um boat, sidekick of the crazed vigilante Overkill played by Scott Speiser. Think of them as a twisted Michael Knight and K.I.T.T.

The display took up a ton of room on the show floor but it was well worth it. After answering a few questions on a tablet, I was given a wristband with an RFID chip and access to the boat. It didn’t disappoint.

The interior was a pretty faithful recreation of the one seen in the show. The boat even talked and harassed specific guests. Behind the scenes of the magic, an actor was given control of the ceiling mounted camera so he was able to see and pick out individual people to talk to, he could even hear your responses and hold a conversation, making it all the more fun and engaging.

The various displays were set up to allow you to create your own super hero alter ego and receive an ID card with your info. I even got my own can of FO-HAM, which actually had Tick pins indise instead of some yummy goodness.

The tour concluded with the chance to make a short video while standing on a spinning pedestal, the results of which you can see below.

All in all it was a fun interactive display for fans of the new show and I’m sure the sheer size of it garnered a lot of attention from people unaware of The Tick. There was always a long line of people waiting to gain access every time I walked by so it definitely did its job.

Season 1: Part 1 of The Tick is available now for Amazon Prime subscribers with Part 2 coming in February 2018. Check out the trailer and the gallery of images from the experience below.
