PSX 2017: Hands-On: Accounting Plus

PSX 2017: Hands-On: Accounting Plus

Accounting Plus, besides being the second highest rated game of all time on Steam, is the wonderfully oddball brainchild of William Pugh, designer of The Stanley Parable and current head of Crows Crows Crows, and Justin Roiland, Chief Creative Officer of Squanch Games and co-creator of Rick & Morty.

If you want to hear about it… well, mostly about it… in their own words, check out the nearly hour long unfiltered interview we did at the end of PSX 2017 on Episode 554 of the podcast. Seriously, it’s stream of consciousness, meta fun, and it’s one of the best times I’ve ever had interviewing anyone.

For those who like to read instead, the guys were looking for a project to do in VR that could really push the boundaries. They’re both big proponents of the technology and they wanted to see what could be done in a very unconventional way.

I don’t want to spoil anything but you’ve essentially signed up for a VR Accounting simulation where something goes wrong and you end up somewhere else. While trying to get back you’ll move from simulation to simulation, each one crazier than the last.

You can barrel right through things but the fun is in the exploration so this one is right in my wheelhouse. Take your time, you’ll be amazed by the sheer amount of dialogue that was recorded for each section and how deep things can go.

If you’re feeling really adventurous, you can try to find the hidden level teased in the interview. I have no idea where it is or how to get to it, but apparently it does exist and nobody has found it yet… you could be the first!

My brief time with Accounting Plus showed me that it’s easily the funniest game I’ve ever played. I was laughing almost the entire time I was in there and the moment my demo ended I wanted to go back in for the full experience. Don’t miss out! Accounting Plus releases on PlayStation Network on December 19, 2017 for $11.99.
