New Party Chat Features in Upcoming PS Firmware

New features are coming to the PlayStation Firmware! According to a post by Sid Shuman on the PlayStation Blog, there will be a new beta test for these newest features which you can register for here.

Taken from the PS Blog post, here are the new features:

Increased maximum Party participants from 8 to 16
Improved audio quality for voice chat
Improved network connectivity

If you are accepted into the preview program, you’ll be given 20 codes to give to your friends. You’ll need those codes because once you’re in the preview program you won’t be able to Party Chat or Share Play with anyone not in the program. If you’re accepted, Parties you can join will have an asterisk in their name.

Additionally, U.S. Players will be able to use the PlayStation Second Screen mobile app to type messages into party chat and a new chat transcription feature will turn the text into a voice messages for other players. On the other side, players can choose to have their companions’ speech transcribed for them on their Second Screen app. How well this new text-to-speech or speech-to-text features will work will be fun to see. If it’s anything like Google transcriptions, this should be worth a laugh. Unfortunately, these features are currently only offered in the U.S. and only in English.

Will you be trying to get into this beta? If you do, be sure to invite some of us! Let’s talk about this and more in the Forums or on Twitter using #AskPSNation.
