E3 2019 – Devolver Digital Wrap-Up

E3 2019 kicked off this week and as news flows in faster than hot oil, Devolver Digital wasted no time in diving into their upcoming releases. With what can be loosely called a “press conference, Devolver’s event has turned more cinematic with time and this year’s certainly surpassed expectations with some fatalities that would make Ed Boon blush.

The event kicked off with the reveal of Fall Guys, developed by Mediatonic. This will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PC in 2020.

Fall Guys: Ultimate Knockout flings 100 contestants together online in a mad dash through round after round of escalating chaos until one victor remains. Battle bizarre obstacles, shove through unruly competitors, and overcome the unbending laws of physics to avoid both humiliation and elimination. Leave your dignity at the door and prepare for hilarious failure in your quest for the crown.

Next up was Devolver Bootleg developed by Doinksoft. Unfortunately what looked very tongue-in-cheek amusing is a Steam only release and available now.

Devolver Bootleg contains eight original rip-offs of Devolver Digital games including Enter the Gun Dungeon, Hotline Milwaukee, Ape Out Jr., and ShootyBoots.

Dissecting the event was a new release from Phobia Game Studio titled Carrion. This game flips the script and has you playing as the terrorizing monster inviting havoc and chaos wherever you go. This will get a console and PC release in 2020.

Carrion is a reverse horror game in which you assume the role of an amorphous creature of unknown origin. Stalk and consume those that imprisoned you to spread fear and panic throughout the facility. Grow and evolve as you tear down this prison and acquire more and more devastating abilities on the path to retribution.

Something new that I’ve never seen announced before at E3 was a brand new arcade game. Developed by Griffin Aerotech and Dodge Roll, this is a real arcade light gun game titled Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead. This certainly looks like a quarter muncher to me and I can’t wait to try it out at my local Round 1 in 2020. Or if you’re ballin’ on no budget, you can pre-order one for your very own living room or man cave for the low low price of $4999.

Enter the Gungeon: House of the Gundead is an original two-player light gun arcade game in which players crawl alone or with a fellow Gungeoneer floor by floor blasting your way down through the army of the Gundead. Unlock new weapons, dodge roll around oncoming fire, and face down legendary guardians of the Gungeon from the friendly confines of your local arcade or at home.

Last up was a nice little reveal for some upcoming DLC for The Messenger from Sabotage Studio. This free content will see a release on July 11, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Switch and PC.

Tropic like it’s hot; critically acclaimed retro platformer The Messenger gets a free expansion on July 11, 2019!
