Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder Hits PSN

Sense of humor can go a long way.  This is also true in video games.  While we’re accustomed to seeing humorous moments in gaming, it’s a special treat to a see a developer take things lightly and poke fun at itself, especially when their product looks to deliver (much to their dismay).

Enter Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder, a PlayStation 3/PSP mini title that became available yesterday on the PlayStation Store.

iFun4All claims that this is the worst game ever made, employing the worst developers in the history of gaming in order to ensure that this is the case.  Judging from the trailer, Paper Wars looks to be a charming little take on the tower defense genre.  While the genre has managed to overstay its welcome on smart phones, a few gems have made a dent in the “me-too” gameplay by approaching things a little differently.  Its unique visual style is Cannon Fodder’s angle, and it looks pretty awesome in action.

But I can’t write this story without quoting their recent post on the PlayStation Blog:

“We consider iFun4All one of the worst developers in the world, let alone Europe. We’re a small team, consisting mostly of a few talentless drunkards scattered about a few remote villages. With our limited funds and even more limited access to power and internet, creating truly great games just isn’t a real possibility. We instead decided to go the other way, and set out to create the worst games of all time.”

“It took a team of true hacks, a deaf composer and an inexperienced graphic artist to create such a disaster, and we are pleasantly surprised by the nightmare that is the outcome. We just hope gamers will feel the same way and think that it’s a truly terrible game.”

They even incorporated trash-talk into their trailer (seen below).

Some decent games have made their way into the PlayStation mini’s section.  Check out Paper Wars: Cannon Fodder, for $4.99, and see for yourself if the game is truly the worst game ever created.
