TGIF, am I right?

If you’re looking to play some of the latest and greatest without spending any money, PopCap Vancouver’s letting everyone in on some Plants vs. Zombies action with an open beta of Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 running January 14 – 18. Just head on over to the PlayStation Store or XBOX Live Marketplace, download the free 18-some gigs and you’re good to go.

Here’s what’s in it:

· Limited access to the all-new Backyard Battleground, a massive, interactive environment that brings to life more ways to experience the Plants vs. Zombies universe. Take your time discovering what Backyard Battleground has to offer, or jump into an escalating battle right away with the King of the Hill-inspired mode, Flag of Power.

· Six new playable character classes including Rose, Citron, and Kernel Corn for the plants, and Imp, Super Brainz and Captain Deadbeard for the zombies. There’s also a returning roster of characters from the original Garden Warfare, and select variants including the Grass Effect Z7-Mech.

· Dive into six different game modes, including 24-person multiplayer modes – like all-new Herbal Assault with plants on the offensive, or the classic Gardens and Graveyards.

· Four distinct maps, including low gravity Moon Base Z, and snowy Frosty Creek.

Speaking of TGIF, join Keith and PS Nation staff on the PS Nation YouTube live stream this Sunday at 1PM EST for TGIS, featuring gameplay from the PvZ:GW2 beta.

Or if you’re really good, use it to screen cheat while playing in the beta against us.

Either way, please watch.

Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare 2 and its 24-player battles pops out of the snow on February 23 for PS4, XBOX One and PC.

A student of games, I play a bit of everything because I like to see what’s out there. Nothing better than first hand experience when it comes to knowing about games. Current game obsession: Anything MOBA (Paragon, Battleborn, Heroes of the Storm), except, ironically, the most popular ones, LoL and DOTA2.
